Glampsan - waste sanitation solutions for glamping, caravan, camping and leisure sites

Line break 3

glamping caravan accommodationRegular readers of glamping publications and websites will recognise Glampsan as a provider of a range of products and solutions to help you capture and control waste at “off-grid” glamping sites.

As farmers and landowners face increasing challenges, diversification is becoming ever more important. Utilising spare land for a glamping or camping endeavour could prove to be a profitable diversification effort for those seeking to capitalise on this trend and reap the benefits of the “staycation” holiday. Whereas holidaymakers were not able to go abroad during Covid times, it is widely recognised that the cost-of-living crisis may well result in the same thing: fewer people may holiday abroad, but they’ll still want to go away in the UK.

For landowners and glamping businesses, putting your guests first is key, now more so than ever. When guests are spending their hard-earned cash, they want to relax and enjoy the outdoor life, and spend time with family and friends in a safe ‘off-grid’ environment. Where people are staying, there will always be a need to provide toilets and washing facilities. Whatever washing and toilet solutions you provide, there will be an implication in how you capture and control the waste.

Glampsan offers an ‘evolution’ of toilet and waste handling solutions: there’s something to suit every customer and every need and we’re consistently adding extra products to the range.

At one end of the spectrum we provide composting, separating and low volume flush toilets, which tick plenty of green credential boxes by reducing water consumption. Composting and waterless toilets use no water at all, and our brand new 2023 “Propelair” product flushes with a combination of air and just 11⁄2 litres of water per visit: all of which are especially attractive to eco-conscious sites.

Towards the middle of the range, you may need simple waste collection tanks - above or below ground - to capture grey and black water for later removal by a waste collection company. One of these collection / cess tanks is the current market-leading “Flat Tank” and was the reason we started Glampsan (and its parent company “Plastic Solutions (Aldridge) Limited”) in 2010. Collection tanks are particularly suitable if you can supply water for flushing toilets, washing facilities and showers, but you can’t access a mains sewer for the resultant waste. It’s a quick, efficient and flexible way to offer a waste storage solution, especially whilst you may be waiting for planning permission to come through for more extensive infrastructure to be installed.

If you want to avoid storing waste in a collection tank, you might need a sewage lifting station - also known as an accumulation tank and sewage lifting station to move waste across your site, perhaps to an existing septic tank or a mains sewer. We partner with Saniflo® for their range of sewage lifting stations, which offer a fantastic solution for the glamping industry. It allows you to connect the waste pipework from one or several glamping pods, collect the waste in its accumulation tank and then (when the tank is full) automatically pump the waste away over a certain height and distance.marsh portapure glamping sewage waste handling

Depending on the size, it is suitable for anything from a single shepherd’s hut or glamping pod (with a toilet, sink and shower) up to a large lodge or domestic house (with many waste sources). In a range of waste tank capacities from 110, 280, 610 and 1300 litres, these units are generally buried in the ground adjacent to your glamping pod, shepherd’s hut or house.

At the top end of the waste handling range is a sewage treatment plant, formerly known as a septic tank. Although larger sewage treatment plants are available, we concentrate Glampsan’s efforts on the typical sizes required by smaller glamping sites. These 2, 3 and 5 person Portapura® units are designed and manufactured in the UK specifically for glamping sites, holiday homes, static caravans, site o ces, site toilets, garden rooms and small leisure developments. The Portapura® is compact, e cient, robust and portable. It can be installed above or below ground and treats domestic waste water to a level comfortably better than the recommended EN standard BS EN 12566. Using a 230V air pump to provide aeration and increase natural bacterial activity, the Portapura® discharges treated water under gravity or via an electric pump to a running watercourse or drainage field (local approvals required).

galmping facility podAlso brand new from Glampsan in 2023 is our CampPlus range of en-suite bathroom pods. For camping and touring site applications in the main, these units are available in single and twin formats and allow you to offer guests camping with style with their own private en-suite!

Our most popular DUO unit is a high quality “pod” containing two separate en-suite rooms in a back-to- back, semi-detached layout. Guests share the building but that’s all they share as each side has its own hot water and electrical supply, and they’re insulated and sound-proofed from each other, of course. Positioned between two pitches, the DUO will provide each caravan or tent pitch with its own private bathroom facility.

No more trips to the communal toilet or shower block with the proverbial loo roll under your arm! It’ll be right next door. Each side has its own toilet, shower, sink, lighting and an individual 80 litre (electric) boiler. High-quality sanitaryware is used as standard throughout, complemented by a selection of optional upgrade items for sites to offer even more luxury. As a site owner, you will be able to command higher pitch fees, achieve higher occupancy levels and extend the rental season: resulting in increased revenue whilst also realising superior customer satisfaction levels and positive feedback.
